Magellan has had A LOT of fun events over the years, but none more enjoyable than when our clients, staff and friends gathered for our 2023 Bulls Legends Dinner. Attendees enjoyed plenty of stories and laughs with some of the greats from the Chicago Bulls, including Carlos Boozer, Luol Deng, Toni Kukoc and Joakim Noah.
Sportscasting great Meghan McKeown led a lively Chalk Talk while guests feasted on a scrumptious Steak 48 dinner. Such a treat to enjoy these warm, happy gatherings again!
When it was announced that the Chicago Sky would play the Minnesota Lynx in a pre-season game in Toronto – a city with no WNBA presence, and certainly not hometown to either team -- a legitimate question might be, “But who will attend?” As it turns out, about 24,000 eager fans who crowded the sold-out arena to cheer on two amazing teams. Young girls held signs with, “Canada needs the WNBA” and “I’ll be your first season ticket holder!” An electric atmosphere provided just the right motivation for the Sky to bank a win. Magellan’s Canadian clients and friends joined us for a private reception at the stadium before enjoying a delicious – and raucous! – dinner with the team.
Southern soul band St. Paul and the Broken Bones took us to church during the Old Town School of Folk Music’s 2023 Blue Jean Gala. Once opening for the Rolling Stones, the Birmingham, Alabama 8-piece band is led by Paul Janeway, whom Rolling Stone Magazine calls “a History Channel of R&B vocalizing, thrilling and powerful. He’ll be one worth watching as he moves through the present.” The Old Town School of Folk Music teaches and celebrates music and cultural expressions rooted in the traditions of diverse American and global communities; Magellan is a proud long-time sponsor.
Coach James Wade and his fabulous Chicago Sky back office and on-the-court team visited Magellan HQ for a fun lunch-and-learn on DATE, 2023. As longtime sponsors and devoted fans of the team, it almost feels like a family reunion when we get together. Signed jerseys for our walls of fame, autographed balls, quality time, and good eats from the Italian Village capped off a fantastic afternoon.
The combination of Magellan’s commitment to sponsorship of women’s athletics and our robust business in Houston impelled us to begin an exciting new partnership with the Houston Dash, a National Women’s Soccer League club. From the field boards to the Jumbotron to the sleeve patches to the LED signs, there is little doubt that Magellan is a major sponsor of this great group of athletes. Clients have enjoyed VIP experiences from skybox game viewing to high-fiving players in the tunnels, mascot photo ops and team meet and greets. The 2023 season has positioned us well for a meaningful, multi-year partnership.
When the Chicago Bulls headed to Paris, so did a group from Magellan Corporation. Joined by clients, suppliers and more friends, the trip wasn’t all about basketball. A sightseeing tour included L’Arch de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tour and other Parisian hotspots. Group dinners with Bulls players as special guests gave all a chance to connect. Here Bulls great Joakim Noah pals around with Voice of the Bulls Chuck Swirsky. A 126-108 win over the Detroit Pistons was butter on the croissant.
A day with the dinos!! Michael Minkus, from our sales department, took full advantage of Family Day at the Field Museum. He and his adorable family enjoyed walking with the woolly mammoths, the titanosaur, under the pterodactyl and more. The Field Museum has been a stalwart of Chicago's cultural scene since its founding in 1893. While we haven't been partners with them for QUITE that long, Magellan is proud to be a longtime supporter of this excellent institution.
On May 4th, 2022, Magellan employees gathered to celebrate our first day together in 2 years. As is true for many corporations, the pandemic brought radical change to our office routine, with work-from-home as the norm. As a little surprise to celebrate our (partial) return, each staff member (Jedi, every last one!) received a delicious Yoda warrior cake emblazoned with “May the 4th Be With You.” We all enjoyed much missed camaraderie – almost as delicious as our welcome back treat.
On May 24, the Chicago Sky hosted a pregame celebration featuring a ring ceremony and banner unveiling to commemorate the team’s 2021 WNBA Championship. After a 95-90 win over the Indiana Fever, Sky fans received Magellan-sponsored commemorative banners as they filed out of Wintrust Arena. This mommy / daughter duo shows us their great swag after a terrific evening celebrating these stellar athletes. Magellan has been a proud supporter of women's athletics and other initiatives that promote gender equity.
Just one game under her belt, and military kid Tatiana is already our MVP. As part of our sponsorship with Chicago Sky, Magellan works with our nonprofit partners to identify a young girl for a truly unique opportunity – to sign a one day contract as a Chicago Sky player! Our friends at USO Illinois thought Tatiana, who is the daughter of two military parents, was just the kid for the job. After a presser, practice round with her new teammates, and primo seat on the court, Tatiana got to feel like the star that she is!
It didn't go the way we all had hoped, but Magellan was proud to sponsor the women athletes of Chicago Sky WNBA always, and these powerhouses in particular. After winning the 2021 WNBA Championship, the true-blue fans at Magellan had of course hoped for another trophy for our favorite ball players. Magellan’s commitment to gender equality goes beyond athletic, with a history of civic, educational, and scientific initiatives supported over the years, and we have been longtime sponsors of the Sky.
What happens when you mix American music royalty with great friends? A perfect evening at Old Town School of Folk Music. Country star Roseanne Cash already dazzled, but when joined on stage by R&B / Gospel queen and civil rights dynamo Mavis Staples, the evening cemented itself as a musical experience of a lifetime for Magellan attendees. The OTSFM is a true gem in Chicago’s cultural scene, providing a wide range of music, dance, theater and visual arts courses to people of all ages and abilities.
