Take a walk down Magellan's Memory Lane with these stories and photos from events we've participated in, opportunities we've had, people we have had the pleasure to meet.
We'll be honest, our offices are not exactly on the beaten path.
So when Bulls great Joakim Noah made it all the way to our Deerfield offices, we were more than thrilled to roll out the welcome mat. The former pro joined the Bulls back in 2007 and played with our hometown team until 2016. Joakim was named to the All-NBA First Team in 2014, the same time he was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
But we know him as a friend. He took the time to visit with staff, sign some balls, take a few selfies, tour the office and chat with his many, many admirers -- and take a baseball bat off the wall and practice his swing.
Magellan is a longtime partner of the Chicago Bulls.
Skills, drills and plenty of thrills!
Magellan staff, clients, friends and families gathered at Halas Hall for an evening of training, noshing, and hanging out with Bears alums Brandon McGowan and Ahman Merritt.
As is evident from the photographs, there were plenty of future footballers on the gridiron that evening practicing shooting, passing, and conditioning. Well, sort of. They were, though, definitively having loads of fun, using the very practice facilities of the actual Bears.
This special opportunity comes with Magellan's partnership with the Chicago Bears, and we were delighted to share it with this great group!
GEAR UP! Such was the message from Chicago Sky new head coach Teresa Weatherspoon at an October press conference announcing her arrival.
No shrinking violet, T-Spoon holds an Olympic gold medal, is a Hall of Famer, five-time All-Star, and was voted as one of the Top 15 players in WNBA history. “I’m excited to be a part of the Chicago Sky Family,” Weatherspoon said. “To be the leader, as Head Coach, of an organization in a city with so much history and culture is a dream come true. The things that we are about to do as a team, a business and in the community will be rooted in excitement, excellence and hard work.”
Coach Weatherspoon shared the dais with Sky Operating Chair Nadia Rawlinson and Sky star Kahleah Copper. Weatherpoon promised, "I am here to stir things up!" Magellan is here for it, Coach. And we'll be cheering loudest.
When tennis legend, 39 Grand Slam Title winner, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, equal rights champion and all around GOAT Billie Jean King talks, we ALL listen!
Magellan clients and friends gathered in Seville, Spain, for the Billie Jean King Cup 2023 for a glorious long weekend in November. Five days of world class women's tennis, together with old world Spanish culture, traditional entertainment (featuring flamenco!), spectacular regional cuisine (jamon, jamon, jamon), unparalleled sightseeing and -- above all -- camaraderie, couldn't be beat!
This spiffy crew attended the USO Illinois Salute Gala on Veteran's Day 2023 at the post London House Hotel Chicago. Among those pictured here are three of the four veterans currently working at Magellan, Matt Bell, Adam Shaw and Larry Norwood.
Magellan greatly values our deep connection to the USO, the services they provide, and the wonderful people on their team, including Carrie Norwood (who just happens to be married to Magellan team member Larry!) and Alison Ruble.
Thanks to the USO for all you do!
What do lampreys, chupacabra, mosquitos, vampires and leeches have in common? They all suck ... YOUR BLOOD 🩸!!
And all are featured in the Magellan-sponsored exhibit BLOODSUCKERS: From Legends to Leeches, at Chicago's esteemed Field Museum. With doors opened on October 30, the ghoulish family-friendly exhibit was just in time for spooky season. Guests can explore the creepy and fascinating worlds of our real-life and imaginary blood feeders.
Magellan is proud to support this and other initiatives of the scientists, explorers, thought-leaders, innovators, educators of the Field.
Chicago Fire announced that Magellan Corporation is returning as an Official Partner of the city's professional men's soccer team. Beginning in 2024, Magellan will be the presenting partner of the Chicago Fire Foundation’s Annual Season Kick-off Luncheon.
“Chicago Fire FC is excited to welcome Magellan Corporation back as an Official Partner,” said Chicago Fire FC President of Business Operations Dave Baldwin. “Our previous partnership with Magellan was a wonderful relationship and we’re looking forward to having them back as a part of the Fire family and continuing our great work with them. Magellan is an exemplary member of the Chicago community, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their support of our Club and the Chicago Fire Foundation.”
The Chicago Fire Foundation will hold its 2024 Annual Season Kickoff Luncheon, presented by Magellan Corporation, on Tuesday, February 20 at the Swissotel Chicago. The annual event will offer fans their first opportunity to meet the entire 2024Chicago Fire first team and coaching staff, while helping to raise funds for the Club’s proprietary P.LA.Y.S. Program.
BENS is a “unique nonpartisan nonprofit comprised of senior business and industry executives who apply best practices to address the nation’s pressing security challenges.” When BENS Chicago convened a roundtable discussion with Lieutenant General Richard G. Moore, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs, U.S. Air Force, on Tuesday, October 17, Magellan was delighted to sponsor.
Based out of the Pentagon, Lt. Gen. Moore shared the latest developments on how the USAF is re-optimizing for our great power competitions with China, Russia and Iran. Discussions such as these ensure that Chicago's business best business practices are applied to our nation's security strategy.
Special guests of BENS Chicago in attendance included US Secret Service, The University of Chicago Veterans Initiatives, and the Chicago based US Army Recruiting Battalion.
No one says it better than our friend Carrie Norwood at the USO, who wrote on LinkedIn:
Now that's what I call a high five!
"When you only get a fleeting chance to put down roots, like military kids do, these moments of connection can mean the world." ~ Navy Family
Thank you to Magellan Corporation and the Chicago Sky for creating memorable and meaningful experiences for military youth throughout the 2023 WNBA season.
Magellan puts tremendous value on our partnership with the USO, and their unwavering commitment of serving those who serve us. The pleasure has been all ours, Carrie!
As part of Magellan's sponsorship, a couple of diehard fans of the Houston Dash were treated to an all-expenses paid away game in the City of Angels, compliments of Magellan with the Flyaway Sweepstakes.
The dream package included flights, accommodations and some top-notch swag along with VIP experiences during the Dash vs. Angel City soccer game.
The only downside? The game ended in 0-0 draw!
An extraordinary opportunity at the July 31, 2023 Chicago Sky WNBA game, when Magellan’s own David Twiford , Force Master Chief (Ret.) USN, recognized the heroism of Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Gretchen Evans during the Military Moment.
CSM Evans founded Team UNBROKEN, an adaptive athletic team for people who have endured some form of life-altering injury, illness, trauma, or disability. She was awarded the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the 2022 ESPYs, and received a well-deserved, thunderous and grateful welcome by Sky fans.
From a pre-Covid full-time office presence to fully remote to a hybrid format, Magellan is one of many companies trying to establish a new normal in the post pandemic workplace. But sometimes normal can be a little dull.
So during July and August of 2023, Wednesdays in the office were deemed, “Bring Your Kid to Work Days,” and things instantly got a LOT livelier! These darling twerps entertained one another with crafts and games, and injected much enjoyed youthful vibe into office culture. The fun had to end, alas, with school beginning these days came to an end.
We mean it when we call ourselves a Magellan Family!
